Carlisle Mountaineering Club are a friendly, welcoming bunch and we are always pleased to welcome new members. Anyone can come along to club events to meet the regular members. We appreciate how hard it can be for a newcomer to the area to make contacts and find climbing partners.

Members have access to a full programme of club events. During spring and summer we have meets every other weekend, with climbing meets around North Cumbria and the Lake District on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, or Penrith climbing wall in the winter months. We also have a climbing meet away most months, of two days or more, which usually involves staying in a climbing hut, camping barn or lodge. During the winter we have very popular meets in the Cairngorms, Glen Coe or Ben Nevis areas and through summer, a good programme of weekend meets in The Lake District, The Peak, North Wales and Scotland.  The club also has an Annual dinner the day after the AGM at the end of November.

Check out the meets section for more info about our Evening, Sunday and Weekend Meets.  Members are often out together whenever the weather is good.

Unfortunately the Club is not equipped or qualified to teach rock climbing so a basic ability to rock climb is required. As long as you can display a level of competence in belaying and rope work, you can get involved. If you would like to learn about rock climbing or are not sure of your competence then contact our membership secretary or anyone on the committee & we will advise or put you in touch with qualified instructors.

Carlisle Mountaineering Club are affiliated to the BMC, so membership of the club gets you affiliated membership of the BMC and their 3rd party liability insurance while you are involved in climbing activities.  You will also receive discounts from various outdoor retailers by showing your membership card.
